Soil Testing Information

In North Carolina, most soils are acidic and low in nutrients. Good plant growth usually requires the addition of lime and fertilizer. Soil testing is the best way to find out how much to apply. The North Carolina Department of Agriculture offers soil testing and information for both commercial growers and home owners. Soil samples are usually analyzed within about a week, but may take longer from late fall through early spring due to heavy loads from farmers at this time. Results of the tests are posted on an online system and also mailed to the client. MORE

West Central Volunteer Leader's Fall Day

This year the WC Leader's Fall Day will be held on November 14th at the Rowan County Extension Center from 9AM to 1:30pm. The purpose of the "Fall Day" is to introduce leaders to new curriculum and provide the opportunity to do hands on workshops with the current 4-H curriculum. The Davie County Cooperative Extension Service and Davie County 4-H hosted Farm Animal Day at Eaton Farms in Mocksville on May 7th. This is an educational event that is held for second-grade students at all 6 elementary schools in Davie County - Cornatzer, Cooleemee, Mocksville, Pinebrook, Shady Grove and William R. Davie.
