New Strawberry
Diagnostic Tool

An interdisciplinary team of  NC State College of Agriculture and Life Sciences extension specialists have created a new, mobile-friendly, database driven tool to help strawberry growers visually diagnose disorders. The new Strawberry Diagnostic Key provides a way to filter by visual characteristics to identify problems. Results include details about the disorders and possible management strategies. The Strawberry Diagnostic Key was developed with funding in part from the Strawberry Sustainability Initiativethe Walmart FoundationUniversity of ArkansasSouthern Region IPM CenterNorth Carolina State University Cooperative Extension Service and the North Carolina Strawberry Association.

2014 Piedmont Farm
School

Training farmers to operate successful small-scale, sustainable farms. What is the piedmont Farm School? The Piedmont Farm School is a 7-month educational program that trains beginning and transitioning farmers with a strong commitment to operate successful small-scale, sustainable farms. The school offers seven business-planning seminars, which will give farmers the tools to create a viable business plan for a small scale, economically sustainable farm enterprise. The school also includes seven field trips to working farms led by innovative experienced farmers and agricultural professionals. A new addition to the class for 2014 is a one day mini-conference that will cover production topics. The scope of what participants learn will include: low-cost Sustainable Farming Methods business Planning & Development Financial Management Effective Marketing Strategies *Farm school is geared for the adult learner. Minimum age for classes and field trips is 12 years of age. For more information please call 336-753-6100
