N.C. Cooperative Extension, Davie County Center, is one of 37 county Extension offices in the state selected to host interns for the NC State Extension 2025 Summer Internship Program. The program received a record setting number of 188 applications from college students representing 45 institutions across the country in 2025. The internship program exposes students to the challenges and awards of community engagement work and helps them consider careers in agriculture, food systems, nutrition, youth development, family and consumer sciences, natural resources and environmental science.
Anna Shore from Winston-Salem was selected for the Davie internship position. She is a rising junior at NC State University studying Nutrition Sciences. Anna explains how she determined her major and why she applied for the Extension internship program: “I grew up around Davie and Forsyth Counties never really understanding agriculture, only getting bits and pieces of information through history classes. I was inspired to pursue nutrition by my grandmother, who has celiac disease, as we both learned to enjoy food together, even with her dietary restrictions. Attending NC State and learning about agriculture and Extension was a huge change for me. This also changed how I saw agriculture and its relationship to nutrition.”
Anna will work 40 hours a week during June and July assisting with 4-H Summer Fun programming, shadowing agents, and developing a few programs of her own. Anna shared a few fun facts about herself, “I recently traveled to Greece with NC State to learn about Extension and Food Systems. When I am not studying for tests, I like to read, thrift and practice art. My dog, Bandit, and I love to walk; the Tanglewood walking trail is our favorite! Exercising is another joy, whether it is lifting weights, yoga, or hiking. Cooking is a hobby of mine, whether it is baking or learning to make new dishes with seasonal produce.”
