Description: This is the largest commercial vegetable grower event in the region with a high quality educational program put together by vegetable extension specialist/agents at NC State University Cooperative Extension. There will also be a trade show and a fundraiser that supports student scholarships. The program will include presentations on many different topics to help vegetable growers. The final program will be completed in December 2018. Topics will include such things as Management of Foliar Diseases of Tomato, Using Chemigation to Manage Phytophthora Blight, Breeding for Late Blight Resistance and Tolerance to Bacterial Spot and Verticillium Wilt, Evaluation of Tomato Lines for Late Blight Resistance, Flavonoids in Tomato, Evaluation of Insecticides for Key Pests of Fruiting Vegetable Crops, Native Natural Enemies on Biological Control of Brown Marmorated Stink Bug, Growing Industrial Hemp for Cannabinoids in Western North Carolina, to name a few. There will be a sponsored lunch and awards program at noon on Thursday. Pesticide credits will be offered.

Dr. Linda Wang serves as a National Timber Tax Specialist with USDA Forest Service in Washington D.C. She is an author and speaker on federal income tax and estate tax planning relating to private woodlands. She has a Ph.D. in Forest Economics and a CPA certificate.

Join other classroom and nonformal educators as we explore activities in the Project Learning Tree K-8 Curriculum Guide, as well as the secondary module, Places We Live. Every participant will leave the workshop with both guides and activities that are correlated to the NC Standard Course of Study and Essential Standards. The PLT activity guides are provided free of charge to participants through support from the NC Forestry Association. CEU renewal credits are available. This workshop qualifies for Criteria I or II in the EE Certification Program (K-12).

Participants will learn about the materials through direct engagement in the PLT activities throughout the workshop, and how to integrate ecosystem studies into their curriculum, at their school site. More details will be sent prior to the workshop. Please make a personal commitment to attend to ensure there are enough materials and space for everyone. 

This workshop requires a $10 nonrefundable registration fee. Lunch is included. Catawba College Center for the Environment is sponsoring this workshop and additional workshop fees.
