Do you ever think “someone should do something!” when you see or hear the mass numbers of teens involved in substance misuse in our community and the skyrocketing death rate from opioid misuse? Well NOW is your chance!

Research shows that substance use disorders begin, and can be prevented in adolescence. A child who gets through age 21 without smoking, misusing alcohol or using illegal drugs is most likely not to do so. Delaying the onset of substance use is a powerful prevention tool. Start the prevention early!

Burke County 4-H is offering the Empowering Youth and Families Program (EYFP) for middle school youth (ages 10-14) and their caregivers. The program is designed to improve family relationships and teach effective communication skills. EYFP educates in order to prevent youth substance misuse before it begins! to thrive.

This FREE 8-week program includes a family dinner with each session and a family weekend retreat at Millstone 4-H camp in Ellerbe, NC. Check out our website at eyfp4h.org. We are currently enrolling families for the early 2023 session. Please contact Tracey Hall at 828-764-9480 or tlhall6@ncsu.edu to register your family or to receive more information.
