Collapse ▲Preserving and conserving Agricultural land is more important now than ever before and Brunswick County has taken an important step to further support our farmers and agriculture industry by adopting our own Agricultural Development Plan. Partnering agencies and local stakeholders have worked hard for the last two years to create and refine a document that reflects our local situation, our values, and shares practical solutions for the challenges and opportunities growers face here.
The Brunswick County Planning Board and Board of Commissioners approved this plan this summer after local agricultural groups weighed in on the plan. Farmers, builders, government agencies, naturalists, conservationists, and public citizens set inital goals and a framework for the plan based on other examples from across the state. Staff from N.C. Cooperative Extension, Brunswick County Center Soil and Water Conservation District, and the Brunswick County Planning Department made further drafts that were reviewed by members of the initial committee and stakeholder groups before putting the final version forward for approval this year.
This plan opens opportunities for policies and funding that can better support our local growers and provides a documented baseline for comparison down the road. You can read the full version at the link at the top of this article.
