Through 4-H, more than 187,000 young people, ages 6-18, in North Carolina learn new skills and serve their communities each year. Guided by North Carolina Cooperative Extension educators and adult and teen volunteers, 4-H'ers gain knowledge, skills and experience that help them become responsible citizens and leaders.

In Davie County, 4-H reaches youth through:

CLUBS
Being a member of a 4-H club gives children year-round involvement, and without question, provides them with the most well rounded 4-H experience. As a club member, children develop leadership skills, public speaking skills, and social skills as they participate in monthly club meetings, community service projects, citizenship activities, and club outings.

4-H Clubs are organized in communities throughout Davie County. Clubs may center around special interests, such as horses or gardening, or may take turns learning about different subjects. Clubs are led by parent and community volunteers who have been screened and trained by Extension personnel. Since 4-H is a family program, parents and guardians are actively involved at club functions and meetings.

Membership to a 4-H club is FREE! Your family may choose to participate in projects and activities that have nominal operation fees and costs.

SPECIAL INTEREST PROGRAMS AND ACTIVITIES
Throughout the year, 4-H will offer a variety of classes, workshops, and tours that we call Special Interest Programs, all Davie County youth, not just 4H club members, are invited to participate. In fact, many children first learn about 4H through Special Interest activities.

Unlike 4-H clubs, Special Interest Programs are short term in nature. How long each program lasts depends on the topic being explored. Cost for each Special Interest Program depends on cost of materials and resources needed.

Davie County primary Special Interest Program is Summer Fun, held during summer vacation. Some programming is offered during the year, mainly on school holidays. For more information, you can request to be added to the 4-H newsletter list.
